Motor-Tober - HC Live Free & Drive

October 14, 2007 on 11:50 pm | In Recent Posts | No Comments

On the heals of yesterdays MAMA V event today we left Concord, NH and headed to the New Hampshire International Speedway to attend the Herb Chambers ‘Live Free & Drive’ event where I spent most of the short ride up looking in my rear view mirror admiring GBMINI.   Even after over a year ownership I still can’t get enough of the GP.

When we arrived we were greeted by Kerry and team and while we were registering Dave in GP0191 arrived.  While the girls caught up on good times we headed to the first of two autocross area’s. This area we could drive Herb Chambers provided MINI’s co-piloted by Skip Barber staff.

Present was the new R56 with the Stage 1 JCW Kit.  After driving it I was not overly impressed with it compared to a regular R56.  Even after watching the Skip Barber staff racing the JCW R56 and regular R56 MCS there was no advantage to the JCW equipped car.   Maybe when they eventually come out with the Stage II kit in two years it might be something to compare to the GP.

Then we were off to the 2nd area where we could drive our own cars again co-piloted by Skip Barber staff.  Ian was out first and then Jayne took out GP1717 with MiniCindy as the co-pilot.

After checking with my technical director and reviewing fuel strategy I took GP1717 out and had a blast.   I could feel the DSC kicking in trying to prevent wheel spin as I powered out of corners.  After a nice lunch I took GP out for a second run and this time turned DSC off and got to appreciate all the power.   On our way home GP1717 hit 7777 miles.

MAMA V

October 13, 2007 on 11:40 pm | In Recent Posts | 1 Comment

Today we got up at the crack of dawn and drove GP1717 up to New Hampshire to join in on the MAMA V event.

On our way up, we stopped for a pit stop and what to my amazed eyes did I see on the way out but a red Classic Cooper Sport on a trailer.  Couldn’t help but stop and admire it.  I left a note with my contact information just in case it was available.

We decided take an alternate route which ran parallel to the water and was great for GP and the bears to stop and play.  Further down the road, we noticed the Chesterfield temporary police station with a cruiser sitting outside.  Stopped for a picture when the Office came out.  Oh oh, no worries he was nice enough to put the lights on for us to take a picture.

When we arrived there were a lot of MINI’s already present as was Ian in GBMINI.  Blue bear and Red bear brought their little one ‘Island Blue’ bear to meet GP0203.  After the drivers meeting we were off.

driving through some gorgeous country roads.  Even the turkey’s came down to check out the caravan of MINI’s though if they came any closer they risked become dinner.  Our first stop presented us with an incredible view.

We stopped for a picnic lunch river side and then were back off for the 2nd half of our wonderful drive

We all met at the Keene Airport for a group shot and final goodbyes.  It was a great drive and the weather was just perfect.

CSi Luggage in GP

October 7, 2007 on 11:00 pm | In Recent Posts | 4 Comments

Today, the BlueGirl was entered into the Americana Manhasset Concours D’Elegance which gathers some of the most exotic and prestigous cars at the American Manhasset Mall.  GP1415 came out of her bubble to help cheer on the big girl  on.  GP1717 brought the big girls luggage set and they actually fit quite nicely in the GP.  Almost too good as I think I’m going to use them when traveling in the GP.   They are four triangle shaped suitcases made specifically for the 8 Series and were only available in Europe.  I was fortunate enough to have the original owner of the CSI give them to me when I bought the car from him.   I think there may be a handful of sets in the world.

GP wasn’t happy as she was stuck in the back but was in good company but pretty sure she would have preferred to have been up at the Mini of Peabody event with GBMINI and friends.
