GP Coming Home

After spending most of her time in Texas, it was time for me and GP to head back east to NY.  GP has definitely covered some ground, driving cross country from Monterey to NY and back west as far as Colorado for Mini’s in the Mountains while serving her tour in Dallas.

After six years in Dallas I accumulated some stuff but luckily they fit in the back of GP.  I buckled the bears and we were off after trying to get a jump east to beat the snow storm that was heading for the northeast.

Before driving out of Texas we stopped for some photo’s and was able to top off for a bargain.

Our first stop was Arkansas.  GP went to sleep under her blankie and night light.

Following morning we got up at the crack of dawn and marched on.  Much of the day’s route was the same GP traveled during MTTS and we had to stop for a photo at the Casey Jones Village  as Ian and I did for MTTS.

Everything was smooth until we hit the Tennessee/West Virginia border where the storm wound up moving south much quicker than anticipated.   In a matter of minutes we hit blizzard conditions and had to get off the next exit, Bristol, TN.   It was the longest 5 miles I have ever driven.    Just amazed how reckless people drive in such conditions.   During that 5 mile stretch a PT Cruiser became a hood ornament for a 18 wheeler,  a Mustang slid off and took out a light pole and some unknown car went over the embankment leaving only the trail of tire tracks in the snow of where it was once.

The following morning’s first order of business was to wash GP.  Had to be a record for washing a car as it was bloody cold but GP needed a bath.

Instead of driving up 81 we back tracked a bit and cut across North Carolina and took I95 north which avoided all the mess.
